Preparing Your Artwork for Large-Format Wall Printing
VÉLLANO STUDIO · 5 MIN READ

Resolution, colour, bleed and file formats for bespoke murals, with a free checker.
VÉLLANO prints your own artwork, brand graphics and photography as well as our collections. The quality of the finished wall depends on the file you send. Here is what we need.
Resolution: think at full size
A mural is viewed from a metre or more away, so it does not need print-catalogue resolution. Aim for 100 dpi or more at final printed size. Between 72 and 100 dpi is usually acceptable for walls seen at a distance. Below 72 dpi, softness becomes visible, and we will advise on upscaling or redrawing. A 3 m wide wall at 100 dpi needs an image about 11,800 pixels wide. Our Artwork Checker does this arithmetic for you.
File formats
Vector artwork (AI, PDF, EPS) scales without loss and is ideal for logos and graphic patterns. For images, send layered PSD or flattened TIFF. High-quality JPEG is acceptable. Please do not send screenshots or images saved from messaging apps.
Colour
Supply files in their original colour space with the profile embedded. If colours must match a brand standard, give Pantone references and approve a printed strike-off.
Bleed
Add at least 50 mm of image beyond the wall dimension on every side. Walls are rarely square, and the installer trims to the actual ceiling and floor lines.
Rights
Make sure you own or have licensed the artwork for reproduction at mural scale. Stock licences often limit print size or use.
